Scotland’s Golf Coast is officially the golf region of East Lothian, and Scotland’s No.1 golf destination. With 21 courses, there is a lot of variety, and a lot of golf within 50 minutes of Edinburgh. In fact, that’s 360 holes of golf, almost one for every day of the year! From Dunbar in the east, to Musselburgh in the west, the experiences are plentiful, and there is a course for every ability and budget.
Marketing Alliance
The Scotland’s Golf Coast group is a marketing alliance – including golf clubs, accommodation providers and other local businesses. Our aim is develop and promote golf tourism in East Lothian and along the Borders & Northumberland coast. We are responsible for the website, blogs, social media, and spreading the Scotland’s Golf Coast message around the world.
Variety and Value for Money
Our global success has been fantastic, with Scotland’s Golf Coast now recognised as one of the leading golf destinations in the world. With the highest concentration of Championship links golf courses in the world, it is understandable to gain notoriety for the quality of golf. However, the variety of course, the value for money, and the selection of non-golf activities makes Scotland’s Golf Coast, Scotland’s No.1 Golf Destination.
So Much Golf, So Much choice
For golf courses, the bucket lists are satisfied with Muirfield and North Berwick. The traditional links courses of Kilspindie and Dunbar are a must, whilst Musselburgh Old Links and The Glen provide plenty of history. Inland, the 9 holes at Gifford and the James Braid, Royal Musselburgh are well worth a visit.
Accommodation varies from golf resorts such as Archerfield and Craigielaw, to luxury bed and breakfasts, like Garleton Lodge. Town centre boutique hotels, including No.12, and village hotels, of which The Open Arms is a prime example, combine to provide big choice. They all have golf and quality hospitality at their core.
The Region
Off the course, whisky, beer, gin, and culinary expertise combine to define the high reputation of food and beverage in East Lothian. East Lothian venues are rightly proud of their food provenance. With Edinburgh on the doorstep, sightseeing is easy, but East Lothian itself offers plenty to keep the non-golfers amused. Castles, beaches, wildlife centres, museums and more, you won’t be bored.
The Genesis Scottish Open
It is no surprise that the Scotland’s Golf Coast brand has such a strong identity. In addition to the previously outlined highlights, The Genesis Scottish Open will once again welcome the world’s best golfers to Scotland’s Golf Coast. The tour players love the region and embrace everything East Lothian has to offer. The message is spread far and wide, growing the power of the brand even further.
Collaboration At Its Best
We are most proud of our collaboration. With 21 golf courses, accommodation providers and partners, there is a lot to promote. Working together with clear messages, and a common goal, has shown how powerful a destination can become. We look forward to Scotland’s Golf Coast becoming stronger and welcoming more golfers from across the globe.
