AMAZING ACCOMMODATION ON SCOTLAND’S GOLF COAST
If quizzed about Scotland’s Golf Coast, our golfers would use the adjectives ‘amazing’ and ‘sensational’. If we were asked to use two nouns, we would probably use ‘versatility’ and ‘variety’. Scotland’s Golf Coast’s strength is that there is something for everyone. Our accommodation providers perfectly demonstrate this with the two v’s. A golfing couple or a group of friends, we can cater for your every need.
Our accommodation comes in all shapes and sizes. Like our golf courses, some are big, some are small, some renowned, some hidden. One aspect they all have in common is ‘personality’. Personalities make Scottish golf and East Lothian is no exception. The warmth, pride, and passion our hospitality providers demonstrate is second to none so let’s embark on a whistle-stop tour of East Lothian’s finest.
Dunbar in the East
Starting in the east, the pretty harbour town of Dunbar has two golf courses – Winterfield and Dunbar – and two terrific properties. The Dunmuir Hotel is an award-winning, family-run hotel with the fantastic 1902 Bar & Grill as its focal point. Five minutes from each of the golf courses, it’s a similar distance to The Dolphin Inn. Termed a retro vintage styled hostel, there is a relaxed and accommodating feel. Family rooms, ensuites and a communal kitchen promote friendliness and conversation. The perfect environment to discuss your round.
Views of the Bass Rock and beyond
Moving to East Lothian’s most famous town, North Berwick, you really are spoiled for choice with more amazing and sensational accommodation. Scotland’s Golf Coast is represented by five unique and special accommodations. The town is a microcosm of our offering, with venues for all. Seaholm B&B proudly sits overlooking the East Sands. The locally sourced breakfast will temporarily distract you from a view of the Bass Rock and the East Links of the Glen Golf Club.
No12 Hotel & Bistro is ‘in town’! A superbly central location, and, as the name suggests, the rooms are situated above a popular and welcoming restaurant. If you like to self-cater, then North Berwick Holidays is only a long iron from North Berwick Golf Club. The Tregarth and Kingarth can accommodate six to 10 respectively.
Popular North Berwick
On the outskirts of town, in a quiet and tranquil location (but still only five minutes to the High Street, the beach and the golf) is the North Berwick Golf Lodge B&B. Four beautifully furnished rooms make the Golf Lodge a home from home for couples, or smaller golf groups. Last, but by no means least in North Berwick is Marine & Lawn’s Marine North Berwick. The iconic ‘Grand Old Lady’ is resplendent alongside the West Links. Recently renovated, its new lease of life includes the wonderful Bass Rock Bar, where its eponymous Old Fashioned is to be treasured.
550 acres of luxury
Archerfield might represent the quintessential resort. Two links courses, a spa, and a selection of amazing and sensational accommodation. 550 acres include Pavilions, Lodges, and the spectacular Archerfield House which can welcome groups of 140. Speaking about resorts, the Lodge at Craigielaw has 30 spacious and bright rooms built with golfers in mind. A two-minute walk to the bar, restaurant, pro shop, putting green, driving range and 1st tee of its own links course shows the importance of golf.
Central location for easy access
Garleton Lodge perches confidently above the region. The hot tub is like a crow’s nest, as you look north, south, east and west, spotting pretty much all of our 21 courses. Angela and David are supreme hosts and after a spa treatment, sumptuous meal and one of David’s many whiskies, you will literally sink into bed. A short drive from Garleton is Papple Steading. Another property that offers a selection of residences, the Farmhouse, Grieve’s Cottage and two bothies have been recently and lovingly refurbished. Sustainability is close to the owner’s heart and the woodland and wildflower meadows frame Papple beautifully.
Closer to Edinburgh
Backing on to Longniddry Golf Club is The Dean. Caroline has gathered a fantastic collection of curios and antiques, which creates a fascinating environment. The three bedrooms are positively charming and breakfast in the atmospheric dining room ticks all the boxes.
Almost there, Winton Cottages have all been restored to former glories, whilst adding all you would expect from 4/5* self-catering properties. Winton Cottage is the former laird’s house, with Wintonhill conveniently offering its own bunker and chipping area. The Georgian mansion of Gilmerton House is our last stop. 1000 acres of stunning woodland and gardens are exclusively yours. The 10 elegant double rooms combine with the Lodge House to welcome 26 guests. A music room, formal dining, snooker room and a private chef are all on hand to make this one of the best group golf destinations.
