Scotland’s Golf Coast is lucky to partner with four fantastic courses outside East Lothian. Eyemouth in the Scottish Borders, and Dunstanburgh Castle, Bamburgh Castle, and Goswick in Northumberland. All the courses are a natural extension to the East Lothian coast, adding more variety to an already burgeoning array of golf. As our offering evolves, as do the golf courses. In April, Goswick will open its first new hole since the 1960s. An important step for the club. Goswick’s front nine improvements promise to take the course to another level.
MacKenzie and Ebert
In 2022, the club’s membership overwhelmingly approved a front nine improvement plan by MacKenzie and Ebert. Since then, Goswick has improved the 2nd and 3rd hole green surrounds, built new tees and significantly resculpted the green on the 4th hole. New tees have been added to the 5th and 6th holes, adding length to the course.
It doesn’t stop there. The original 9th hole has been removed, and in April the new par 3 7th will open. Ground was broken on the new hole at the end of 2025. With shaping of tees, greens and surrounds signed off, the two greenside bunkers are also now completed. As the images show, the bedding in process is going well.
The new 7th and the removal of the old 9th will result in a re-routing and improvement to the club’s 1st hole and the creation of a world class short game practice facility.
Insight into the Design
“It’s just amazingly rewarding to see everything coming together,” said Mackenzie during a recent site visit. “I hope we have delivered what we promised we were going to deliver in terms of the improvement to the front nine and creating a really good new hole.” A video of his comments as well as insights into the hole’s design can be viewed by clicking here.
Amazing Golf Experience
Over the past decade, Goswick has been climbing the rankings. The new changes are sure to see that trend continue. In a recent National Club Golfer listing, Goswick ranked as number 43 in England. At £120 a round, Goswick offers amazing value for money for a true links golf course. With design influencers including James Braid and Willie Park Jr., the spectacular dunes, the North Sea and beaches, the level crossing, the elements, and traditional clubhouse, it’s golf at its traditional best.
The Region
The region is awash with quality golf. Bamburgh Castle Golf Club overlooks the stunning Bamburgh Castle as well as the famous Bamburgh Beach, recently voted 3rd best ‘One of a Kind’ beach in the world in TripAdvisor’s 2026 Travellers’ Choice Awards. With Dunstanburgh sitting at number 91 in NCG’s English rankings, and Eyemouth’s 6th hole a regular in best par 3 lists, our partner courses offer so much to complement Scotland’s Golf Coast. Stay in East Lothian or base yourself at the Rob Roy in Berwick upon Tweed. Both Newcastle and Edinburgh are arrival options, or a short drive from elsewhere in England. A superb Gateway to Scotland location.
